Dear people who decide what fashion is and isn't:

I like you well enough. The things coming out these days are nice and pretty and I do like the advent of lovely materials and things.

However, I do have one quibble.

Mightn't you decide to make handbags with long straps fashionable (read: easily accessible) again? I mean, the sweet ickle things for an evening out? Perfect with the teeny strap. I love them. They are cute and pretty and prosh.

However. When I must lug a glucose meter, day planner, iPod, cellphone, and a wallet the size of half a brick around town? The short strapped "big" purses are...ridiculous, to say the least. I do not like something the size of a piglet that close to my armpit.

I should not have to worry about deodorant stains on a HANDBAG.

And I should NOT have to get something from Wal-Mart that is ugly as sin in order to carry what I need to carry. It is Annoying. *nods*

So. Let's review: for evening and cute parties? ickle purses with short straps, very nice.

For Everyday life? Give me a big-ass purse with a strap that does not make the bag be like...another breast. A strap which puts the bag at about waist length or near hip length is perfect.

Thank you for your time.

Heh.

I don't mean to laugh at your rant, because it's well-stated and very well-formed. And I so agree that you shouldn't have to get a frickin' ugly purse at Wal-Mart.

You should definitely get that at Target.

This from the person who's always getting new purses and never using them, because I always end up with my nice small backpack again no matter what. They're convenient, as unfashionable as hell, and safe.

Dude, I almost always get my big ass bags from Target. They have several nice ones. The one I am using currently was bought at Target.

...yeah, I've seen some decent ones there. Definitely better than Wal-Mart, yes.

Well, it *is* a funny rant. I find it extremely amusing, as well as irritating, that I cannot seem to find a purse with...decent length straps out there. lol

I take comfort in the fact that fashion changes. ;)

I hear you!

You need an iPack! it's a backpack or messenger bag with a little compartment for your iPod, and a plug in thingy for your headphones built into the oh-so-long strap!

I know, I know, it's not a purse. I carry one anyway, because I carry a lot of crap around with me, as well.

It sounds nice! What I miss is those unconstructed, slouchy bags from the 80's.

Those were great and held EVERYTHING.

The only reason why I care about who decides fashion is that people actually make stuff according to what they say! Gah!

I did manage to find what I wanted - a very roomy messenger bag I can stuff with books and my laptop and such. With a very long strap that goes over my shoulders.

By looking through bags for men on the American Eagle site.

Why do people thing women don't need large bags with straps that can go over the shoulder rather than be lugged around? It doesn't make any sense! *grumbles*

Word.

I'm very specific about my purses. They have to be denim, and they have to have a long strap. However, sadly, the last purse I bought, though denim, did not have a long strap -- just the two little handles. :+( Le sigh. (However, I can kind of deal with it because the purse looks like jeans. With a belt!)

I love long straps. They leave me with -- wonder of wonder -- two arms to use!

Hmm...do I have a strap I can attach to this purse? ::goes off looking::

I hear ya. Being a tall person, with a preference for bags that hang around my hip, I have a lot of trouble finding a bag with a strap long enough.

And if I can, it's like...2"x3". :(

Seconded! Purses are usually my impulse buy items. (One of these days, I will find the perfect one, and never have to buy another again. .... Yeah, right.) But they must have the long strap to go over one shoulder and have the bag down low. If they have smaller, hand-straps as well, fine. As long as there is one big one.

I hate purses so I carry a backpack. Sure it makes me look like a high schooler, but I'm more comfortable with a cheap backpack on my back than any form of fashionable purse under my arm/at my waist/unadjustable strap down to my knees. But then I'm lugging around snacks, cloth diapers (which are bulky), toys, crayons, notebooks, and various other things... I'm not sure even a big purse would work for that. :P
