Just another day...

I'm really, really, really struggling to get back on the diabetic eating plan again. If you don't already know, having diabetes SUX in a big way, especially when you have the world's biggest sweet tooth. You have to be *so* organized to eat this way, and it's difficult for a organization-challenged person like me. But I'm starting to feel bad, and that ain't good. I'd appreciate any prayers, warm thoughts, encouraging words that people can send me. I *have* to eat properly and exercise: put it this way, I don't wanna die.
On a lighter note, I got my second issue of Folk Harp Journal, a very interesting publication of theInternational Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen. I think I'll have a third glass of water and sit down with it (and try to keep my mind off the cookies in the cupboard).

and a cinnamon swirl, shortly before the diet started, I got turned on to Häagen Dazs
Cookies and Cream, and I was a muffin-a-day girl. Preferably White Chocolate and Raspberry.
I still need my sweet fix.
What works for me:
- rice milk (esp. vanilla)
- rice cakes (believe me, they are sweet)
- inherently sweet vegs, such as red or orange pepper
- roasted sweet potato (slice thinly, put on roasting dish, 30 minutes at
gas mark 3-4, nibble away)
- baked sweet potato
Porridge with milk is also v. sweet (believe me, you just have to
retrain your tastebuds.)
Barbara Cousins has written two books, Cooking Without and Vegetarian Cooking Without.
They have lots of recipes for sugar-free sweets. I can't make most of them because I'm not
supposed to be eating dried fruit (too sugary). But I can give you a great recipe for sweet
potato cake that WORX. The books are available from amazon.co.uk.
Finally, there are no more cookies in my house. Do not lead us into temptation ...

My mother had diabetes too, and I remember her eating a lot of sweet potatoes.
Thanks for the support everybody!
